Uniform tax question please.

Do you know how long it can take when claiming for a uniform rebate for the first time please? (with backdating I assume it can take longer).

Cheers.

You could try the HMRC website tool "where's my reply" might give you an idea of current timescales

    Hope that helps

Thanks for that, on checking it should have been a month ago with a reply.
They received the letter which stated on envelope "Repayment claim" 29 May.
However, this is for my hubby who have already contacted them in the last fortnight and was told twice they are dealing with it, but as said that was a fortnight ago.

    Cheers.

Di..... have they confirmed that they have the letter ? If so what are they waiting for? There shouldn't be any delay unless they are waiting for further info. They are "dealing with it" is not a reasonable explanation ..... insist on more info....

if they are waiting for P60's your husband may speed things up by sending them in with a cover letter, but mark the LETTER with the words "repayment claim" not on the envelope - which is discarded.

    Good luck

    Hi there

    Thanks for that.

Yes they said they had the letter a few weeks ago and it was passed on to them for calculation. They had said that almost 2 weeks or so ago, what they said was because it goes back a few years it may take longer. The letter was also marked "Repayment claim"

If nothing in the post by tomorrow (Friday) he will chase it up again, cheers.;)

    Hi there

Hubby received the new tax code for tax relief 2013-14 of the basic rate £60. So his code is higher for this year.

As he been in the same job for the backdating (4 years or so), does that above include that too please?

I understand if the job title is not actually listed, then the basic of that is £60??
He works within a dirty environment, tractors/heavy brakings industry also CNC machining.

    Thank you.;)

Tell us what his new code is, and what his old code was, and someone may be able to answer you.

Cheers, it was 9440L and on the Paye Coding Notice 2013-14 it says it will be changed to 9500 so 950L for above stated year.

As you say, £60 is the default allowance for washing uniforms so a coding allowance of 60 will definitely be for the current year only.

Hopefully HMRC are going to send calculations and a cheque for the earlier years but even if they do the calculations will be in one envelope and the cheque will be in another and which envelope arrives first is anybody’s guess.

On the basis that some progress has been made (you’ve got the coding notice) I would give it another fortnight but if the money is needed urgently get on the phone.
