Peugeot 206 Exhaust

Peugeot 206 LX - 2000

Im a total amateur but believe i need a new exhaust (please correct me if i am wrong) as when nearing higher revs i hear a roar from beneath the car.

Car anyone give me a guide price on what i should be expecting to pay?

Thanks in advance.

You need to take it to a garage and find out what's wrong, random guesses from a forum wont help you. Could be a lose clamp, could be a massive hole in one of the boxes or pipe or both, could even be the cat.
  • Thanks for your reply, Its going to the garage on Saturday but was just wondering what the likely price would be if it was say, A new exhaust or silencer.

It's difficult to say really. Prices vary depending on where you get it done, what part of the exhaust is needing replaced and what quality of replacement exhaust you want fitted (i.e cheap and cheerful or manufacturer quality)

The most expensive part is normally the cat, so unless that's away it'd imagine £100ish maximum from a generic fast fit centre.

    Cat can be silly money.....

When the vehicle is up on the ramp, keep a close eye on what they're doing.
Someone at one of these exhaust/tyre outlets, once poked a long screwdriver around inside my cat and then tried selling me a new one, saying "it's got a bit of a rattle mate, needs replacing". Strange how it was perfectly fine before he touched it.........

  • I plan to take it to an independent garage that has a very good reputation and have used them before.

Really hoping its not the cat, as if it is i'm not sure if its worth getting it repaired.

Probably just a back box or a weld gone on a pipe. I had a Citroen Xsara years back that had to have the exhaust dealt with a few times, cheap steel. Went down the stainless steel route in the end, although the car was worth it at the time.
Although I wouldn't recommend doing that to a 13 year old 206, not worth the cash.
