Perhaps do now what you have said previously and enter into no further correspondence. So long as the driver isn't known that is. I think there are cases on here where people living in Scotland ultimately receive court papers from Northampton County Court and the PPC has omitted Scotland from the address. This would be because Northampton doesn't apply in Scotland. If that point is reached contacting the court and telling them you live in Scotland would surely kill this off.

If any PPC were found to be deliberately misleading Northampton in a last ditch attempt to frighten money out of motorists surely they must be some form of sanction?

    Good luck

Have a look at this thread. The parking company issue proceedings through MCOL by omitting to include 'Scotland' in the address (MCOL won't accept claims against addresses in Scotland as it is a 'foreign jurisdiction' for these purposes).
Northampton Court advised the defendant to write in and the papers would be placed before the judge (presumably to consider striking out the claim). So this is one worth watching.

The problem for the court is that unless someone physically checks the addresses they have no way of knowing that a Scotland claim has slipped through until the defendant contacts the court. However if the judge starts to get lots of these cases landing on his desk, I have no doubt that some sort of notice will go out to the offenders.

  • Thanks everyone. They have not been advised who the driver was.

So ignore any further letters but if we get a letter from Northampton court contact them to advise we're in Scotland and it should be thrown out?

I imagine we should at no point send in evidence (ie bank statement with personal data blanked out showing small amount of shopping purchased at the supermarket and debited account the next day in absense of receipt) that the store was used in the day in question, on the off chance this kills it?

    Many thanks

Personally I would let sleeping dogs lie, as far as the PPC is concerned.

However, the store manager does have the power to instruct the PPC to cancel the charge - and we have forum members who have successfully persuaded Morrison's managers to do this.

So if having this hanging around is going to bother you, I suggest that you take the PCN and the evidence of you shopping in Morrison's that day, and speak to the store manager (not the person at the customer service desk, or some deputy, but the actual manager) and explain that you are a genuine customer and you feel very harassed by these letters from the parking company, to the point where you are becoming concerned about shopping there, as on busy days there is a very real chance that you might accidentally take too long to do your shopping, especially if you eat in the cafe as well. Be polite but firm.

    Keep us updated.

Absolutely DO try that, but as zzzLazyDaisy says, approach the Store Manager or Customer Services of the Supermarket directly about it (or the firm that runs the retail park if more than one store there). NOt as a request, not appealing, but assertively COMPLAINING about their agent's harassment:

The more complaints about this scam the sooner the stores will sack them. It really is that simple IMHO.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
