    generally, bought hardware such as wind turbines will never pay for themselves.
    but if you diy them, then the payback is very quick indeed. ie a turbine made from an old car axle/diff assembly and an alternator connected to batteries will be very cheap to make.
    solar heating from CH radiators on the roof is very effective. all diy. most materials can be for free!
    you will prob need backup/s though. maybe a SH diesel genny running on vege oil?
    coiled pvc pipe running thro a compost heap can deliver hot water!
    Get some gorm.
