smart tv problem?

last week i bought a 50 inch samsung led smart tv.
i have connected it up correctly and watching freeview channels everything is fine.
when i watch through my virgin box there appears to be a vertical line /shadow that moves backwards and forwards across the screen.
virgin engineer came out yesterday and changed the box and also said there was a weak signal which was rectified.
put the tv on last night and an even wider vertical block was apparent, again moving across the screen but only when i am watching through the virgin box. just checked now and i get a perfect picture.
anyone got any thoughts on this, i am assuming the tv is not faulty if i get a good picture through the freeview channels?

I would agree, sounds like some kind of co channel interference, but that would only be relavent to an analogue system.
I assume the Virgin box uses an HDMI connection and that is what you have selected on the TV.

the engineer from virgin changed the box to a HD box from an old v box. he set it all up last night,
it seems the problem is intermittent.
if it is the tv currys have offered to swap it no problem, but i am thinking it must be the virgin box

If you are watching via Virgin, and press the input select button on the Samsung remote what does it say?

Yes thats correct, my last thought is when you see the problem whilst viewing on Virgin, pull out the aerial lead from the TV.
If the problem goes away there may be a problem with the TV, if not back to the beardy one.

Other things to try is swap to HDMI 2 - also do you have a DVD / VCR - what's the picture like on those?

thanks tiexen, i havnt connected dvd up.
    will try what you advise,
with the previous virgin box the line/shadow was visible all the time.moving constantly across the screen, since the box was changed it must be intermittent, the tv is on now although i am not really watching it i just keep glancing to see if everything looks ok, so far so good
