Cirencester / Stroud / Cheltenham - Ideas Please

I'm planning a weekend away in September as a birthday surprise and have got a really good deal covering accommodation, afternoon tea and dinner via a voucher site.
We leave London by car on the Saturday morning, however, we can't check in until late at about 2/3ish in the afternoon. It's an overnight stay and I've planned something for the Sunday afternoon, and aim to get back early Sunday evening.
I wondered whether anyone had any ideas about what we could do / see on the drive towards the hotel - the big places along the way seem to be Cirencester / Stroud / Cheltenham. Has anyone any suggestions of days out/places to go around this area? We have never been before.
Happy to stroll, window shop, National Trust, Royal Horticultural Society etc and generally start the winding down, as when we get to the hotel we're going ot hunker down and flop.

Hoping the collective know-how of MSErs can give me some ideas! :T

Westonbirt Arboretum wouldn't be out of your way so if its a nice day its worth a visit, particularly so if the leaves have started to turn colour by then. Its all outdoors so not really a wet day option.Adventure before Dementia!0

Hiya!
I live in Cheltenham so to me its a bit boring, but we get lots of visitors coming to visit! We have Pittville Pump room where you can sample the natural spa waters- its tastes awful though! The town centre is not bad either.
Bourton on the water is not too far away and its beautiful on a nice day!
You could also visit Cirencester water park, lots of nice walks and lakes to see etc.
Stroud is a nice place too, lots of little shops and fab views around the Cotswolds.0 -
