Laptop insurance/ personal possessions

Does anyone know of a personal possessions insurer who could provide cover for a laptop that's more than 3 months old (more like 3+ years!). I can't put it on my home insurance as I use it for work and it says "business use excluded".
Thank you
Thank you

You can try the ABI http://www.abi.org.uk or BIBA http://www.biba.org.uk/0

Is it just used for Business use? Some insurers pay out if its less than 50%.
If more do your employers not cover you for this (unless your self employed of course)0 -
Thank you!
No, I'm self-employed and I use it for everything! It's probably about 75% business, 25% personal use?0 -
Many normal household policies will include it even if it is business use providing your business from home is clerical and you own the laptop.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). That isn't quite correct, I would advise anyone against assuming what you said is factual and recommend that they discuss it with their insurer or broker. If you don't know what you are talking about keep quiet0 -
My policy covers up to £3K of business equipment as standard and they were pretty competitive.

It might be worth you waiting until renewal if you don't have long to go because most companies have cancellation charges these days.
No connection (except satisfied customer).
I have not had any claims experience but it was competitve and I could do everything I needed to on-line (including adding specific items) and could download all the documentation.
Of course you never find out until you claim but it's usually underwritten by the usual big names like lloyds or Zurich.0 -
Yes it is correct. Many household policies will cover clerical homeworkers on their policy providing they fit the criteria. Lisyloo confirms that as well.Compensationitis wrote: »Dunstonh

But the point is that, although I do clerical work from home (one day a week), I do four days a week at various locations and need to make sure my laptop is covered for that and in my car inbetween locations. My house insurance is fine for the clerical work at home - it's the laptop outside the house that I need to cover. The "business use excluded" which I refer to in my first post refers solely to the extension on the house insurance that would cover my laptop outside the house.0
