HI
I started my first company in Novemebr 2012 but we have only just gone "Active" so now i have 3 months to inform HMRC.
I have been trying to use the Government gateway service, but it keeps asking me for a UTR.
Can anyone tell me where i can find this?
It doesnt appear on any of the paperwork i have recieved from companies hours or HMRC?
Thanks
Dan

Did you start a limited company or register as a sole trader?
The Gateway/UTR apply to sole traders not companies.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

When you register as a sole trader or for self assessment, you normally get an acknowledgement letter with a reference number.
Mine is 10 digits followed by a letter.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Hi, thanks for the replies! It is a limited company and I joined the gateway to inform hmrc that we had started trading and we would need to start paying corporation tax. I managed to find the number in the end on a piece of paper I was sent. What I didn't realise is that the "reference" number is the utr minus the first three numbers! All sorted now! Thanks0
