OH has bought a second car, but has a private plate on his clio which he wants to be on his new car - the new car is slightly younger that the clio, so he can take his reg plate, but I will be keeping the clio. I have a few questions regarding the procedures/clio if anyone can help:
1. I understand that the clio will be given a replacement reg no, what will happen with my insurance for the clio?
2. What will happen with the MOT/Tax for the clio? - these state the private reg.
3. How long will alll this take?
4. Will there be a period of time to switch over when I won't be able to use the clio?
I have tried looking on the dvla website, but it only gives details of transefering to a new car, not for what would happen to the old car IYSWIM. Any help would be appreciated!

There's a very high probability that the pre-private plate that was on the Clio will get reassigned to it, so iIf you owned the Clio before the plate switvhed and you kept the originals, you can just bung the old plates on when the paperwork goes through.
I once got asked to take my car for inspection when I did a plate transfer - they do this to a certain %age of cars (quite a small %age so you're likely not to have to worry about it) to minimise fraud etc. I had to take it to my nearest DVLA office.
Although they say it can take the best part of a month to process, if you get the initial paperwork right you can sometimes get the stuff back in about a week.0
