working from home - advice

hi people, im new here just looking for some advice...

Im currently suffering from panic attacks / anxiety & agraphobia, ive been off work since around october 2012, i currently receive ESA & my partner is on statutory maternity pay, we get no help with rent etc so as you can imagine money is tight.

With the things im suffering from its impossible for me to return to work any time soon, weve already cut costs as much as possible.

ive made this pretty long winded, my question is, does anyone know of any "work from home jobs" or ways to earn money from home etc.

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

YOu don't say what your qualifications and skills are. Perhaps if you added your qualifications someone might have a brainwave to help?

If you are unskilled is there something you could have delivered to make or quality check? Try ringing round plastic moulding and other factories in your local area, see if they need outworkers?

You could try some of the freelance sites such as Freelancer.com or Elance.com, but a lot of jobs advertising for admin and data entry are scams, so you need to be careful.

    Hi camerong87,

Despite what people say, it's probably the best time to work from home with the continued growth of the WWW and the surge in online shopping. The future certainly lies in the online world and not with a bricks and mortar business.

Apart from your mentioned skills, what are you prepared to learn in order to make money from home? That is a key area and will determine how well you do. You either learn to swim or you sink in this game unfortunately.

You should write down a list of things that you can do online that, could perhaps make you money and another list about things which you would like to learn about.

Ebay - Start selling items that you don't need and try to develop a skill for the buy/sell arena.

Writing - If you enjoy writing then, use a decent and free office suite like Office Org 3.2 and convert your work to PDF format via Adobe Reader. This is the best way if you want to send out future reports or sell e-books.

Blogs - Start a free blog using sites like Wordpress or Blogspot and get writing about any of your hobbies and/or interests.

Social Media - Start integrating Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter...... to any of your future blogs enabling you to tap in to a wider audience.

Web Design - Building a website is certainly not as daunting as it first sounds or looks. I started my first website by accident in June 2009 and haven't looked back. There are lots of free tools available enabling you to upload banners, headers and images and others which offer an excellent range of templates.

Coding - HTML is the easiest to follow and this is what creates the overall look of your website. There are lost of free videos on You Tube and info on Google about this subject.

Affiliation - One of the best ways to get involved in internet marketing is through affiliation. The best scheme for psychical products is Amazon and the one for digital products is Clickbank.

Own Product - This can be a great way to make money and gives you a good sense of well being. In May 2010 I launched my first product about horse racing. I combined my basic web skills, knowledge of the sport and wrote a digital book about it which I converted in to a PDF. I approached a few webmasters who review sports products and it took off from there.

Email Marketing - If you go down the website route then, you should be thinking about building a list using an autoresponder like Aweber. Normally the best way, is to offer a free report or information in return for someone's name and email address. This is an integral part of internet marketing and if done correctly, can make you a lots of cash.

This might seem a bit long winded, as I do tend to go on a bit, but there's always potential to make money online, it's just about finding a way to piece the online jigsaw together and give enough people what they might be looking for - "feed a hungry market".

    All the best :)

I read somewhere on this forum, but can't for the life of me find it, about working online from home as a customer service rep for the big catalogue companies.

I'm sorry I cannot remember which one, but it was Littlewoods or Shop Direct or someone like that. You would be working from home handling customer enquiries, returns etc.

If I can find it I'll come back and post the link.

    Good luck.

Look at Lionbridge, Leapforce and Appen Butler Hill as they all offer legitimate working from home jobs.

I was usually a lot of freelancer.com, but be prepared to do a whole lot of work for not a whole lot of money. The site is bad about underpaying and people are always looking for the cheapest labor possible rather than the best quality. Good luck finding something that works though, I wish you well on your healing process.
  • thanks for your replies people, much appreciated.
  • There are so many ways to work from home, as a virtual PA, TEFL teacher via skype and much more. Just involves a bit of digging around on the internet.
