Best Way To Manage Accounts ?

My family have quite a lot of building society accounts. Some are postal and others are passbook. We do not tend to update the books at the branches. Which tool is best to track the accounts please?

Microsoft Money for all your finances.

I believe there are some free money management packages - hopefully someone will post about them.

  • I use AceMoney.

Not as many features as MS Money, but it does most of what I want, and is much cheaper and simpler to use.

It's shareware, so you can try it free.
  • What is the chepest way to get one of these packages, dont care if its last years?

Before trying to find software to keep track of them, you should look into which of them are still worthwhile and which you can get rid of. Many accounts which used to be a good deal now pay peanuts. Chances are you could consolidate them all into just 1 or 2 accounts, which makes the job of managing them much simpler!
  • I wanted to keep them open, with only a small balance, in case they de-mutulase or are sold off in future years but feel that I may be wasting my time?

If all you want to do is keep note of the fact that you have an account with a list of BS's then just use what's available on you PC and leave it a a desktop icon (for reference). As Deemy says use Excel, or if you haven't got that then just use "Note Pad" or "Word PAd". It would really be a waste of money purchasing some software to keep track or relatively static information.
