Making a mistake at Tesco carpark

Hi, maybe someone can give advice?
I parked at Tesco for 50 mins. You're allowed 2 hours so I was well within the time limit. However, on looking at the receipt when I got home, it looks like I've entered someone else's reg ( the last 3 letters are the same as mine). Tesco will therefore think I'm still in the carpark, 3 hours later.
I rang to explain and the person dealing with the call didn't understand the problem. He kept saying it's your first offence so you'll just get a letter. I said I hadn't committed an offence, I left within the time limit, and just fumbled the number/letter entry. The screen is impossible to read in bright sunshine.
The big problem, apart from the £60 fine hanging over my head, is that this is a company car, and the company charges a £20 admin fee to sort out driving/parking offences. It's to cover the costs of dealing with correspondence from DVLA etc. I don't think I should pay anything for a simple error and the failure of Tesco's crappy parking meter screens, but I don't want to fall out with my employer. Any advice?:(

"It's your first offence"! What a numpty! Who does he think they are, the bloody police?
If I were you I'd speak to whoever deals with this stuff at your company and tell them not to reply to anything they receive and just give it directly to you, and you will ensure they receive nothing more.
Very, very interesting, though, the admission that a "first offence" gets nothing beyond a letter. That's well worth knowing, thanks. Any idea who the parking company involved is? Highview perchance?Je suis Charlie.0 -
Also tell the Tesco store manager that you are not willing to jump through some petty, ridiculous hoops when you do your shopping, and that you'll be taking your custom elsewhere, thank you very much.0

OK bazster, that sorts out the employer aspect, but what about the Tesco car park fine?
They take your car's picture and so have date/time evidence, and you the shopper must enter your car's details to avoid the fine. Cocking up the buttons must happen to loads of people in a rush.
I've only got the telephone word of a 'yoof' that nothing will happen about a fine, only a warning letter, but what if he's wrong?0 -

You (or your employer) haven't received anything yet, come back when you do. And just as it's not an "offence" it will not be a "fine".Je suis Charlie.0 -

He is right - Highview at Tesco normally send a warning letter first (usually!).

I have seen a warning letter from Highview recently as a colleague got one and I laughed at it almost as much as I would have laughed at a fake PCN from them!
Read the Parking Prankster's blogs, a MUST for you as they are about Highview!

:T:rotfl:PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
