    Hi there

I'm slightly confused I apparently have an above average/good credit score but constantly rejected why? I have no credit history, ccj's bankruptcy or IVU's and I have never had a credit card or store card. I have two credit accounts thats not even that, I took a sofa out from DFS so its not even a credit account, its paid monthly by DD its never been missed or late and an H and M account which has one late payment due to me being in hosp, I cant get any kind of credit card not even a credit building one, Iv tried to apply for the Luma, vanquis visa, captial one classic, all credit building cards and they have all said no? my callcredit score is 719 and equifax 583, during the telephone call with equifax who said they score you out of 600 surely 583 is a good score is it not? I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the whole situation, how do you build a credit rating/score when your not even given the chance to do so?

Lack of credit history, multiple recent searches, all credit accounts quite new, one with a missed payment already and recently started a new job; I'd say your credit report isn't that great at the moment, let alone above average.

Stop applying for products for 12 months (searches will fall off your report). Don't miss any more payments. Make sure you stay on the ER. Over time, you'll find you should start getting accepted.
  • Renewed my experian account today and my credit rating has shot up. Now I don't want to get too excited but is around 820 a good score? For me it seems huge considering when I first signed up it was around the 400 mark! I'm tempted now to apply for a proper credit card as ATM I only have a vanquis one.

I don't want one to buy anything tbh I just want to build my credit score even further. Any advice greatly appreciated as always

I'll give you just as meaningless score. 999 there you go top of the shop. Mean nothing though when you apply for that card, as the card issuer has their own scoring system and does not even see the 999

Your credit rating with any lender is likely to take a temporary plunge when you have taken on new credit. As others have said, if you do nothing but maintain your existing credit well now for 3-6 months your attractiveness to other lenders should increase.

Why don't you explain the purpose and meaning of the numerical "score" you show when people check their file and what it actually means to the customer?

You obviously haven't read any of this thread and jumped straight in talking about meangingless scores that dont for one minute represent your credit worthiness.

I was thinking exactly the same but now just think he's a troll on a wind up.
  • Wow, first time I've been called a troll. Sorry if I don't know it all like you clearly do and sorry for thinking I could come on here for advice, my bad

Its not that mate its more to do with there's hundreds of posts including in this thread about how meaningless CRAs scores are yet people jump straight into a thread going on about what scores they have and how to get a higher one etc.

You don't have a individual credit score they don't exist! Lenders will score each individual on their credit status not CRAs.

Ah ok my bad I'm sure it gets tedious reading the same questions from people like me! Lol

Have to say I'm a bit gutted though was hoping that my higher experian score was an indication that I'm another step closer to my dream of buying my first home. Ah we'll the fact I've gone from 400 to 800+ can only be a good sign IMO

Lots of people in this thread have commented about the worthlessness of these 'scores'. A mere 4 posts before yours it even says "Ignore the scores from Experian, Equifax etc. They are one big steaming pile of dung that do not mean anything in the real world".

For you to post what you did so soon after and when (as You-Kip also said) the top of the first page of this board is full of threads where people have said the same can surely be seen as nothing but trolling. I'm baffled as to why (from your tone) you think we're criticising your level of knowledge when we're not. It's ok for people to not know things and ask for advice but under these circumstances very suspicious.

(Incidentaly I love that the pointless score increased when you renewed. Great tactic from Experian to make you feel warm and fuzzy and like paying for the service is money well spent).
