Blackberry Playbook

The Playbook was put on sale in 2012 at a greatly discounted price with the promise of BB10 upgrade when it was released.

Blackberry have now confirmed no upgrades will be done for the device. No fixes have been done to it, or will be done to it as confirmed by Blackberry VP Technical Relations Alec Saunders https://twitter.com/asaunders/status/355070664081817600

Should the consumer be entitled to a refund for a product that was sold with the promise of the upgrade to fix current problems?

The device has serious shortfalls the simplest of such that facebook does not display any images and so is almost useless, email has errors on Yahoo accounts and causes the device to be unusable on large mail stores, web browser is slow and incompatible with newer web technologies and has outdated flash support, developers have all but abandoned the device. All of the promised apps, such as Skype, will not now be provided for the device. Technically it was a good device that was badly let down by the software that in my opinion Blackberry should take responsibility for and either fix or refund purchasers.

I hear you and it is a pain.

But I'm happy to have a well-built tab which holds 64G worth of pics/music/movies for £129. So happy, that I bought a 2nd one. If you paid more, I wouldn't be chuffed, don't get me wrong.

Sell it to someone who appreciates it, eBay will have it gone at a good price. That or AVForums.

Did any retailer sell it on a promise or guarantee of BB10?
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

As a company, they are a busted flush and the news of their demise is expected.
They have failed to deliver on anything and they are dinosaurs of an age where the only way to get on the internet or receive E-mail was with a blackberry.
Those days are long gone and they are like a retro cult device.
    Be happy...;)

They verbally confirmed the Blackberry commitment to bring BB10 to the device, just as Blackberry CEO did in numerous interviews and press events dating back to March 2012.

Again, did any retailer sell it on this promise...?

Retailers didn't promise BB10 (the only party you have recourse with). The Simple fact is that the Playbook was a "Still Born" and starting during Christmas 2011 when the fire sales of these devices took place this was common knowledge to both the consumer and retailer. Hence the heavy discounts.

Consumers bought these devices due to the massive discounts, and as a entry to a tablet market that was then in it's infancy. It's the risk you take as an early adopter of technology, and it was definitely no secret that the Playbook was a dead duck by 2012.

The Playbook was sat next to iPads at around £500, Motorola Xooms and Galaxy Tabs at double the price of the BB. If it looks to good to be true, it usually is.

    It's called buyers remorse.
