Gardeners-world.net not refunding my money. Should have known better.

All,

I went to purchase the Pyramid Steel Garden Chiminea from gardeners-world.net. At the time their was no note to say the item was out of stock.

A day after, had an email to choose an alternative as the above item would not be in stock until September. Therefore, we requested a refund.

They came back and said it would take 7-10 working days for a refund.

Came to the 10th day and we emailed the company and Philip Douglas stated that it would be in by the end of the 10th working day.

Yesterday, we emailed and rang the company. They stated that they would make sure the refunding monies would be in the afternoon. In addition, they would email us proof of the telecom conversation.

No monies have yet gone into my account. In addition, no email confirming the telecon. After another to them, Last night apparently the accountant is looking into the problem.

I realise that online shops have 30 days to refund money.

I should have read reviews regarding gardeners-world.net before purchasing the item. As other people have had problems regarding getting their money out of them.

This item was a 50th birthday present. I cannot get a replacement birthday present until I get the refund.

This item was purchased on the 1st July and we started refund proceedings on the 2nd July.

Stay away from this company.

How did you pay for it and how much was the item?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • It was £59 via sagepay/visa debit on 29th june.
  • I ordered a garden sofa from this company on August 1st which was meant to be delivered a few days later. Same issue as all the other reviewers !!! -- a week into the order I called them for an update and they told me that the sofa was not in a sellable condition so I requested a refund on August 7th. This was meant to be processed within 7 to 10 days - nothing until now!! Same excuses with sage pay as other customers, totally useless, unresponsive and a downright scam. Note how "Steven Moffat" finds the positive reviews on another review site helpful - he's part of the company!!!

Avoid at all costs and use a different company! Do yourself a favour!

I'll be reporting this to trading standards.
  • Also, take it up with your bank - they can handle the dispute for you and temporarily refund the money. Good luck!

I would take this advice with a pinch of salt. Temp refunds are (extremely) highly unlikely.

the bank will only handle a dispute if you formally start a chargeback, but they wont give a temp. refund (loan) as they have no idea if you are entitled to a refund from the retailer, so they give you this temp refund and then find you are not entitled to a refund from retailer, now then the bank is out of pocket as they gave you the temp refund, so now they have to class this as a personal loan and charge you interest
