First accident on my moped :(

Options
I had an accident on my moped recently, I was at a traffic light controlled crossroads and was the first vehicle pulling away from my lane going straight.

A driver from the opposite direction obviously thought he could turn right in front of me, my bike struck the rear passenger door/wheel arch. I came off my bike, bike is damaged not sure if it's fixable and the driver drove off!

Ambulance and police attended and were lovely :)

Police say as there's no CCTV (which is mad as it's a busy main junction) they probably won't find the driver, they also said it was his fault.

I was thinking, if the driver failed to stop there must be something else he doesn't want to get caught for, e.g. Being uninsured, no licence, disqualified etc.

Also, given that they must be some sort of damage to the vehicle would it not get picked up on CCTV further down the road?

Maybe I just watch too much Traffic Cops!?

Also, as the claim will be from the MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau) any idea how much they will pay out and how long it might take? I just want my bike fixed and back on the road as soon as possible :)

Any advice appreciated :)

Can you remember what type of car and what colour ?
if so, same time another day and stand and wait with a good camera.
Chances are it is a commuter on a regular route and we are creatures of habit.
All you need is that reg plate and things will get a lot simpler.
    Be happy...;)
  • I saw the side of the car so I know the colour and there were three occupants, so I guess it's less likely they were commuting but it's still a great idea! Thanks :)

Just be a little careful trying to trace the driver. If the Police are happy it was "his fault" at the moment then your claim should go through pretty easily, not least because it'll e undefended.

But, if you trace him and his insurers decide to defend then it's likely to take a lot longer to settle. The fact that you hit so far back on his car might enough for them to try and move some contributory blame to you on the basis that you effectively drove into the side of him after he'd almost got across the junction.

That may or may not hold up in the end, but it could easily drag things out for a while (and keep any payout in their bank rather than yours while it does)!
