Mis-Sold Income Protection Insturance ?

Hi MSE folk - newbie here - fishing for a bit of guidance.
My wife and I paid about £6000 of premiums to the Nationwide for income protection insurance from 1998 to 2006 (ish). I kind of needed it as I had no fall back from my employers at the time but my wife had really good terms of emplyment should she get ill (6 months full pay, 6 months half pay, etc) whcich meant she did not really need it. From 2002 I did not need it either in reality as my new emplyer had equally good terms.
Not once were either of us asked if our employers had anything in place for extended periods of absence.
Reckon it's worth chasing for a refund?
Money down the drain ... as most insurance is if you never need to claim I suppose.
Great site - the missus treats it as gospel:A

Was this income protection or payment protection?I kind of needed it as I had no fall back from my employers at the time but my wife had really good terms of emplyment should she get ill (6 months full pay, 6 months half pay, etc) whcich meant she did not really need it.
What would your wife do after 12 months? Not once were either of us asked if our employers had anything in place for extended periods of absence.
That would be strange as the factfind used in the sale of income protection would ask employer details and income protection is designed to kick in when employer benefits stop.Reckon it's worth chasing for a refund?
