  • Just revisiting this - my average on 28 accounts is now down at 3.38% after tax.

Its only going in one direction!!

Shifting from the NW current accounts (four of them - one remaining) and opening up some Lloyds and Yorkshire CAs hasnt had THAT much of an affect. Its a battle of attrition!

BUT I have a Halifax ISA at 3.7% 'maturing' in the next couple of weeks as well as a FD Regular saver at 8%.

Overall down at 3.23% after tax.

2.79% net on £66k. (3.49% gross needed if half of it wasn't in ISAs).

The only things paying more than 3% gross equivalent are my National Counties FRISA paying 3.7% until next Feb, a couple of k in a regular saver at 4.1%, and my Santander ISA at 2.5%. Not going to bother with Nationwide for 5% on £2.5k as I'm not a member, although have just opened an HSBC 4% regular saver, which isn't on my spreadsheet yet.

Still haven't used my 2013-14 ISA allowance, so plan is to use that, and then open a second 123 account to try and keep my interest rate steady as I continue to pile on the cash.

I keep telling myself I need all this cash for my upcoming house purchase, that never seems to come up!!! Wish I'd bit the bullet on S&S ISAs last March :(

Mine is 1.76 net, but I'm lucky enough to have debt at 0.99% so still making £1300 profit out of the banks.
Not as good as it used to be but still a completely safe profit.

It would be interesting to compare our figures in the middle of this year compared to the originals. For example my Coventry 2.25% and BM 2.35% end this month, Derbyshire 2.5% and cash ISA 4% next month. This will be a big hit, not compensated by 2 x santander 3% in the meantime.

The cash isa is finally going all into S&S isa so that will take that interest out because all my funds are dividends reinvested at the moment.

Miserable times indeed for those who rely on savings, and maybe even for those of us expecting another market correction.

We certainly need that Barclay's chart updated with the best savings rates over time compared to the various indexes.

Well mine has fallen (much) further - 2.57% net.
  • Well a slight rise in mine. 3.02% net. Helped by a Nottingham R.S ISA 4%, some TSB Classics, a Lloyds Classic, Notts R.S 4% etc

    Still rubbish mind

Cash savings rates double the rate of inflation are exceptionally good.

    4.32% pre tax
    3.76% after tax

    £4k in TSB @ 5%
remainder spilt across Santander 123, and NW Regular saver ISA @ 2.59%

None of these rates are likely to change, but obviously the more I save the lower the average goes, as the top £4k is at 5%.

My average is 4% as I only have a Lloyds club account. I do need to start looking at an additional place to store the leftovers now though...
