employing a nanny and claiming wtc?

Hi Im a single dad and trying to return to work.
Because my working hours are outside office based hours I have considered employing a nanny instead of a childminder who wont work the hours I need.
I was wondering if I could employ a nanny and get the child care element of wtc just like you would for a childminder?
Thank you.

Depending on number/age of children, hours per week you need child care - you may have a look at Au Pair (if you have a spare room).
You willl not get child care element but financially this is the cheapest option - using a reputable agency of course.0 -
If you can afford a nanny then you are earning too much to get WTC.0

Childcare can be paid as part of CTC not just WTC. SO if OP is not getting WTC but is getting CTC, would still be able to claim ChildcareNo One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0 -

Not quite right. Childcare element is part of WTC. Any childcare element due is paid with CTC. I think what you are trying to say is that claiming the childcare element of WTC can directly affect the amount of CTC that a person gets.
If he doesn't get any WTC, he would still claim the childcare element of WTC.
