Fit note to employer while on ESA?

I am on ESA and no longer need to provide the DWP with certificates from my doctor. Do I need to continue to send them to my employer as the DWP don't ask for them now?

I ask as my employer often gets annoyed if they are sent in late and sends me letters saying I'm in breach of contract etc. Due to my mental health condition I do not always manage to keep GP appointments so medical certificates can be delayed until I manage to be in the right state of mind to attend another appointment.

If it is the case that I am no longer obliged to send them to my employer, who knows I am on ESA through the DWP, then this would make things easier for me as the threatening letters don't help my condition.

I have looked online for advice on this but haven't had much luck so I am hoping someone on here can help!

Thanks in advance!

Your obligations to your employer, and to the DWP are separate.

However, your employer is also required to be 'reasonable' in their treatment of disabled people, for example, accepting some leeway.

On the other side - you still have an employer.
I would encourage you to reschedule your doctors visits, so you can get a week or twos grace if things go wrong.
