in Credit cards
Have just returned from the USA where to cash travellers cheques + use a credit card photo id was required a real pain as most had no idea what a driving licences was or how to record the detail and had to ask for help!
Is a photo id credit card available in the UK? as i do not want to carry my passport around with me.

Card companies trialled photo credit cards about 15 years ago and gave up. I used to have one from the National & Provincial; not only did it have my photo on the back but also very decorative with pictures of penguins on the front (back then cards were usually dull with pompous bank logo only.)
Why photo cards were no good against fraud:
1. Merchants could not be educated to check the photo (like they wouldn't check signatures either.)
2. At least in those days the technology to bond the photo on the card was not there. If you boiled the card (yes I tried it) then it came neatly apart and the photo could be replaced and the card glued perfectly back together.
So about as much use as a chocolate fireguard and they binned the idea.I ♥ MSE0 -
Photo credit cards waste of time. I could clone a credit card with the name George W Bush on it with my photo and I bet a merchant would not batter an eye lid.0

RBS used to scan them on, i think banks etc still should - anyone could look over your shoulder at Tesco/ATM
3 point security........
Photo
Pin
Signature
Ive used a female friends ( with her consent of course ), i didnt even hand the card over : insert : pin : out shop
technically speaking a credit card transaction needs a signature ( the signature binds the credit agreement payment not a pin, card issuers dont tell you this ! not in thier favour !! )
pins on credit cards made fraud easier - mail interception! make the signature disappear and what physical evidence provides prosecution ? NONE!!
its also harder for you to prove fraud, but thats ok cos now the C/c companies have you taking monry out at a atm a a higher rate than chip & pin transactions - and thats why chip and pin works ££££
my dad never knew his Access pin all them years ago - he did have one too, and he never took atm cash out on it...........who fell for chip n pin trap taking cash ouy ATM's on credit cards now ?
while on the subject all transactions refund or not, signed in red pen can be contested/disputed as a refund not a debit to any a/c - credit or debit - the retailer has to use black or blue
In Australia chip and pin is alive and well, but all credit transactions must be signed for aswell - sensible ! And they have bankcards that let you choose, CHQ a/c, Savings or Credit on one bank card from your issuer at the exact same chip n pin terminals we have, we have 1 debit 1 credit & 1 savings a/c card each, how british how typical and how such a waste of resources and energySO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0
