So long as you get the payment, and CSA are willing to pay you, and collect from him at a snails' pace, does it really matter?

Why should a PWC be happy at receiving 17 quid pw when a lump sum of 2.5K would be much more help?

    It stinks.

She said she didn't want the CSA paying the money. Well, how many people have 2.5k spare? So if she wants the money in a lump sum, then she'll have to accept it off the CSA, and let him pay them 17 quid a week. If they are happy with that I can't see the problem. That is what I meant in my post, so long as she gets the money, it shouldn't matter to her what arrangements he's come to with the CSA. Apologies if I've misunderstood the situation, but that is what it sounded like to me.

I've NEVER had one, even though I have been offered, as I wanted NRP to actually PAY a higher amount himself rather than the CSA paying me off and collecting off him a couple a quid a week (£30 in my case).

But that is what it sounds like in her post! Or at least that is how I read it, that the CSA are offering to pay her off, and collect it off him at £xx per week, but she has refused, as she wants him to pay her himself. And what I said was, so long as she gets her money, does it matter what arrangements he comes to with the CSA. Sounds like a bit of nose cutting and spite TBH!!

Get your MP on the case.

I had over 5K of arrears that was being paid back at £50 a month.

A few weeks later, after getting MP involved I have just recieved the lot as a lump sum (From him)

I can totally understand why you want it to come from him and not the CSA. People tend to forget that if the CSA 'pays' it is actually coming from every single one of us that pays tax. If paying the arrears puts the NRP in financial hardship well sorry but tough. They should be thankful interest doesn't have to be paid on it. I know the CSA screws things up for NRP's who want to pay, but in this case as in mine, it is someone who never wanted to pay. If the screw gets tightened on them I for one am glad.

And how many people have access to that kind of money? And what would have happened if he didn't have it, and no chance of getting it either?

I don't know how many people have that kind of money. I guess if you are a NRP who knows that for 20 years (In the OP's case, or in my case 12 years) you haven't paid any maintenance you must expect that at some point it will catch up with you.

If as the NRP you have failed to put some aside for the inevitable catching up by the CSA, then I guess you are at risk of the other enforcement tools they have i.e loss of driving license or imprisonment. It's amazing what money people can 'find' when it gets to that choice.

Hi thanks for so many helpful replies... I never said I didn't want the money, I was just unsure if what they said was right about it being only £17 a week after 20 years

    I missed your posting.

How typical of them to raise your hopes and then knock you down.

Only way to know the assessment is correct is to ask for a full account breakdown from day one. If they don't play ball - you are most likely to be fobbed off-is to involve your MP. My usual advice I'm afraid.

It appears the 7.5K is owed to the Secretary of State?

Nevertheless 2.5K is not to be sniffed out. But I would be peeved at receiving 17 quid pw plus it's interest free. Lump sum would be better.

The advance payment criteria is very strict and the criteria is posted in the sticky at the top of this forum. Don't build your hopes up.

Might be worth calling on your MP anyway to see if any maladminstration has occurred given the CSA has helped you to receive maintenence - not! Then you may be eligible for Financial Redress - again, see sticky.

They are excellent at maladminstration. One of their strong points. I can't think of any others. Oh yes, fobbing people off and lying are a couple of others.

    Good Luck
They said yesterday that the £10k was the total amount in arrears to be split for all 4 of his kids, so it works out at £2.5k each. Woman I spoke to was rude anyway and when I tried saying about him lying about where he lives and his car etc she just snapped that "none of that matters with arrears" . I work for a martial arts distributor and if I spoke to customers like that I would get fired!

    My sentiments exactly.

Get your MP onto it immediately and report this woman. You are right...'clients' should not be spoken to like that. If you speak to her again inform her your MP is on the case and suggests she reads through the civil service code...see sticky;) and for her to learn some respect and manners.

Is she just a case officer?

The higher up you go the more civil they are...excuse the pun.
