Faulty Diamond Ring - 11 weeks old

I bought a diamond eternity ring 11 weeks ago from a reputable jewellers. I only wear it at weekends really and put it on at the weekend and noticed a black hole where a diamond once was! I bought the ring on sale at £500 and was given an insurance certificate valuing it at £1k. Will they fix this free of charge? or will they try to say I have been careless? not possible at all. I just know Im going to get some snooty women looking down her nose telling me I have caused it. I thought diamonds were supposed to last forever, and be durable! any advise on my script for going back to the store?:o Thanks folks

Diamonds do last forever, but only if the setting is secure enough to hold them in the ring! Was this a brand new ring or a pre owned one?
You won't know for sure if it will be repaired free of charge until you go back to the shop. I know you say you only wore it at weekends, but they will probably ask you did you wear it when washing up or with your hands in water as well as other things you'd do around the house without a 2nd thought, so be prepared for this.
You mention an insurance certificate, but usually this is an inflated value, so don't take any notice of that. Is the ring insured in anyway, perhaps under your household policy as you can probably claim on that if the jewellery shop refuse to replace the stone. Hopefully though, they will agree that 11 weeks is too short a time for a stone to work loose. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
You have probably caught the setting on something which will open and in turn the diamond will fall out.
You might struggle, try your house contents insurance.0 -

Given the average insurance excess and the OP says that it is only one of the stones from a 500 ring then it is unlikely to be economical to put it through insurance.
In the first instance go to the shop for them to review. They may admit it was a manufacturing issue or may say you've caught it on something and thus isnt to do with them. Given it is under 6 months it is up to them to prove its user damage and not for you to prove its a manufacturing process.0
