Renault and their pesky window problems

Hi,
My drivers side window has stopped working on my Megane 56 plate. I have been told by Renault that this is a known issue and they will pay 76% of the total cost which is £429.79 inc vat. When I asked for the full breakdown it is:
£201.35 for window regulator mech + wiring + motor
£61.11 for loom
£95.70 for 1.1 hours labour

I cannot understand this as they are quoting prices including the markup on parts and labour to inflate the total price and therefore reduce the discount.

Can they do this? They asked me alot of questions which suggested that I might have had more luck if I bought the car from them and had the servicing done there too.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Its a seven year old car, four years out of warranty. They arent liable to contribute anything.

    Its a simple fix anyway.

If the window motor runs but the window doesnt move, then you need a regulator. These can be bought new from ebay for about £30 - buy the full regulator NOT the repair kit.

If the window wont go up or down, then its the electric module. These are about £30 exchange on ebay - search for 'renault megane electric window repair module'.

Any half decent mechanic with a bit of electric savvy will fit one for about £30.

Goodwill is calculated from the 'full up' price, but any parts discount should be deducted first. You won't get it at cost then have goodwill applied - this is not just applicable to Renault btw.

As above - at 7 years old, many makers would leave you to take the full hit - I think it's a fair offer pesonally

To make themselves look like heroes, giving you a 76% contribution. Its costing them next to nothing.

Get a motor from a scrapyard and fit it yourself for less. But you wont get much of a warranty.

You have to love dealers and there "goodwill gestures" :rotfl:There quote is 25% of what the vehicles value could be .....

Is there not a Renault specialist or auto electrician you can use locally? The price they've quoted is laughable. If your handy (or a friend) with a few tools then go with the above fixes.

It really is straight forward and the hardest thing will be getting the tool kit out the garage and opening a beer afterwards laughing at Renaults prices.

£430 to fix an electric window! They make it seem like they're doing you a favour by paying 75% of the bill whereas in reality the amount you're left with would cover the work.

You can get the parts new or guaranteed refurbished on ebay for the same.

Plus a scrap yard will usually make you take the regulator AND the motor (and charge you accordingly) whereas you can otherwise just buy the specific bit you need.
