washing at 30 but clothes still smell!

  • Washing at 30 doesn't get my stuff clean, so I wash it again.

It's a bit like Fat Fighters on Little Britain... "half the calories, so you can eat twice as much..."
  • Surely you're only going to save energy if your washing machine fills with cold water and then heats it. Mine takes water from the hot tank and mixes it with cold to get the right temperature, so washing at 30 I'm wasting the heat that's already there. (I think!)

Thank you for this - I hadn't even thought of this. I'm just trying to do my best to reduce the harm my household does to the environment and have been turning down to 30 degrees - but your comment above hadn't even occured to me. My machine takes of the hot water tank which is set to 40 degrees (ish!).

    Thanks

  • Just to add to the earlier comment about soaking clothes before the wash. I put my clothes into the washing machine, turn it on and when it fills up with water I turn it off, leaving the clothes in the water. I turn it back on a few hours later (or whenever it is convenient) and I find that the extra 'soak' seems to make a lot of difference to the cleanliness of the clothes
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
