does your washing machine collect enough water in the window?
we've found that clothes don't come out clean because of the new 'efficency' rated washing machine, will only import a small amount of water. not good for towels or a full wash. we pour more water in through the pull out drawer, while wash is on.
could also check that your filter (usually on the front of the machine) is free of gunk!
if still smells, can try vinegar in the last rinse as this gets rid of suds and is an anti-bacterial. it doesn't make your washing smell of a chippy! What goes around - comes around

Try putting a bit of essential oil like lemon or lavender on an old bit of cloth and bung that in with the washing.0

Our work clothes are very dirty (oil, grease, rubber [products, sweat) so we save them up and do a hotter wash for that load only, and wash the rest of our clothes on a cooler wash. If DH has enough clothes for the gym can he save them up and wash them together?
Washing one load at a higher temp is better than using more energy and washing powder to wash them over again.40degrees is enough to get our work wash done.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

My hubby's socks pong, so I keep them aside till I'm doing a hot wash rather than have to re-wash or add extra fresheners. Drying outdoors generally helps freshen everything too.0 -
If they are not coming out clean and smell, the simple answer is that they are not being washed properly at the right temperature.
Putting "pongy stuff" in the machine won't cure the problem, it merely tries to hide it. It's akin to all these stupid air freshener adverts on TV, if your house smells-
1. Get rid of the cause
2. Open the window
Trying to save money/the planet by washing things at an incorrect temperature is really false economy. They end up so dirty and smelly they have to be replaced long before they would be if washed properly.0 -

Perhaps he's not in touch with his "feminine side"!
Seriously though, we use sopanuts for washing and so I generally use some essential oil like lavendar or lemon on the cloth bag just to take away a slight vinegary smell that the soapnuts have (mainly for my husband when he's pegging it out!), and believe me when the washing has been dried outside, very little remains of the oil smell0 -
I think you're probably overfilling the machine too. The drum should only be just over half full if you want things to wash properly.
I think the modern machines are rubbish to be honest, they all go for AA efficiency ratings instead of getting the clothes clean.0 -
Does doing your washing actually work out cheaper on 30 wash for your machine? On our new machine Economy 40 save more water and electric that the standard 30 wash (According to the manual).
In fact the Economy 60 is also not much different to the 30 wash.
Do you need to use the "special" 30 degree persil powder rather than "normal" powder ?Give somebody a hug it costs nothing

clean filter at front of washing washine - all types of gunk in there could make your washing smell yuck!
also, try a wash without washing in to clean out system. What goes around - comes around

I've washed my boyfriend's gym kit twice at 40 and it has still come out smelling dirty. None of the other washing smells bad. I don't want to have to keep washing it! Any suggestions?0
