Currys faulty washer - Any advise?

Hi everyone!
Im just wondering what your thoughts about this were?
I bought a new washer from currys on 2/5/13 and paid for their installation package. I use it about once a week but noticed it started to make a banging noise so I rang them and a chap from Indesit came to look. Essentially it needs major surgery to be brought back to life. New bearings, new drum and door seal, not much left really.
Currys are refusing to replace it and tell me its not their problem. I now have to keep chasing Indesit on 0844 numbers off my mobile. Indesit have said they have a "speed of service" which could be 28 working days without my washer!! How does this fit into comsumer rights? No one is willing to engage with me in discussion.
Any opinions? Do I have to lump it as currys say?
Thanks x

The relevant law here is the Sale of Goods Act. This states that the retailer must repair, replace, or refund any item that is inherently faulty and did not last a reasonable length of time. It also states that in the first six months after purchase any fault is an inherent fault unless the retailer can prove otherwise. So this is definitely Curry's problem unless they can show you misused the washing machine for example.
If the fault is inherent then the retailer has to cover any costs in providing the remedy (repair costs, postage costs etc) and it has to do so without causing unreasonable inconvenience. I would say 28 days without a washing machine might be considered unreasonable.0 -
Looby_Lu what Indesit are saying is that 28 days will be the maximum time without a washing machine (mostly because Currys will replace it if it goes over this time).
While you can only deal with Currys in sorting out the repair, all they will do it take your details and then contact Indesit themselves and act as a go between yourself and Indesit, while you can get them to do this, it will take longer due to the nature of them passing information back and forth between you and Indesit.
You may find dealing direct with Indesit on 01733 287691 (from http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php ) will save you time and money.
If the repair doesn't work or appears to be taking too much time contact Currys again and seek either a replacement or money towards your washing costs.0
