JSA Interview (daughter)

My daughetr filled in JSA appliaction last night and was called to attend an interview on Friday.

What can she expect to be asked? Can anyone advise please?

What about signing up to the dreaded Universal Job match and giving JC staff access to it?

Any advise please?

Thanks a lot,

They will ask for 3 fields that your daughter has skills/experience or interest in such as retail/admin etc. They normally give a number of job searches you have to do a week (for me its 10 each week, 7 online and 3 handing in cvs).

Your daughter will be told to sign up to Universal Match and to use it everyday (it has an activity note box you have to write in that everyday like say applied for so and so). If you don't have internet access at home you must go library or to the job centre and do it.

Failure to look online everyday and comment about what you done and meet the amount of jobs your meant to be applying for means she won't be paid. Its just happened to me because my intenet broke and I couldn't go online everyday my advisor told me should of went library and so cancelled my payment even though i'd looked and applied for 20 jobs.

You just need to follow the rules to a t and don't give them a chance to not pay you because they will, attend every appointment and arrive early because if you are 5 minutes late they will use it against you. Try and get everything in writing lik appointments as well. My advisor is lovely but even she can be tough as its her job on the line and they have criteria to meet themselves.

    Thanks for that.

I see a lot of posts about UJM and people saying that giving JC staff access to your account is NOT compulsory, any clarification on that please?

    Thanks a lot,

One very good reason not to consent to sharing UJM data with the DWP. Withdraw consent and stick to writing your jobseeking activities on paper.

Are you allowed to do this. I made this argument that others are allowed to do the old method of writing on the paper and my advisor said that is mandatory that everyone has an universal account and if they will lose benefits if dont have it.

Unless a jobseeker's direction is issued to the claimant, it is not mandatory to sign up to UJM, although it is wise to open an account when asked, as a jobseeker's direction effectively makes it mandatory to do so under threat of sanction.

However, it is not mandatory for a JSA claimant to share UJM data with the DWP (JC staff), hence why a box needs to be ticked in the UJM account giving consent, it is entirely optional.

Yes, you can insist on providing activities on paper, and do not have to consent to the DWP accessing your UJM account. But it is advisable to provide proof of having opened a UJM account, the e-mail used to set-up that account is sufficient.

You should withdraw consent by unticking the consent box in your UJM account settings.

    Thanks a lot for that.

I had a look at the UJM site and it is horrible - you need to click on the job to see the salary/location and once you click but do not apply - if JC has access to yoru history.. they will question it.

My daughter will be looking for a job and will hopefully find one soon but I do not like the Big Brother watching aura about UJM.

    Thanks again.

Its not mandatory to give them access despite what some staff tell you.

Neither is giving them an email address or home telephone number.
