Remove existing wall hung combination boiler.
Flush heating system with chemical cleaner.
Supply and fit new wall mounted boiler, in existing boiler position, altering pipe work to suit.

Baxi Platinum 28HE(10 Yrs Warranty)£1997.00

Approximate duration of works: 1/2 days.
With all new boiler installations we would recommend the fitting of a permanent ‘Magna clean’ filter just under the boiler.
This can be supplied for an extra material cost of £87.00. Fitting would, of course, be free of charge.
Upgrading to a Programmable Wireless Room Thermostat will cost £65.00
Making good will be carried out around the flue hole.
New pipe work and making good will be left ready for decoration.
Independent Engineer 2.
Power flush the system inclu each individual radiator. Add corrosion inhibitor.
Decommission existing boiler. Make good flue hole.
Run water main to and from the boiler inclu magnetic scale reducer.
Connect 22mm gas supply and test.
Honeywell CM927 wireless programmable thermostat.
Spirotap MB3 filter on the return pipe.
Vaillant Ecotec Plus 824. £2290 plus VAT
Intergas Combi Compact HRE 24/18. £2020 plus VAT.
Spirotap Magnabooster 2 £140 plus VAT.
All advice gratefully received!
Thank you.

a boiler (at least those you quoted) cost around £1000 at non trade prices
so for one plumber (you dont need more than one for this job) you would pay around £1000 for labor and other materials ?
i guess it would depend on what else needs doing to make your current setup compatible with new combi boilers.... but its too expensive for all three.
I would have thought more around £1300 installed depending where you are.
I got one installed in my flat (2bed) in coventry for £900 around 3 years ago.0 -
This is in London.0

£ 1300???
£ 1000 boiler as you say. Plus radiator valves, plus timer, plus copper piping, plus other material I.e make good, inhibitor etc. Leaves nothing for labour.
£ 1300 for a straight swap maybe but its never as simple. Now add your extra pipework, trv's etc.
Engineer 1 sounds best to me.
Depending on your system obviously.0 -

Could you explain what you mean by this please? Do you mean something that a lay person should be able to explain?

Yaz.
I was just refering to your existing set up. A powerflush is pointless if the pipes going to and from your radiators are thin ( microbore), as a powerflush works on volume of water. A chemical clean and taking each radiator off manually is best therefore increasing labour charges.
Again you probably have 15mm gas pipe which will need upgrading to 22mm.
I always find the best people are the ones giving a full breakdown in their quote to avoid misinterpretation. For eg. Engineer 2 has not mentioned trv's or cleaning up. Engineer 1 you know exactly what your getting.0 -
Engineer 2 actually gave the more comprehensive breakdown, so much so that I had to break it down to what I considered to be the highlights. I'll check for TRVs and cleaning up.
So far our favoured independent (2) is more expensive than BG for the Vaillant and not much cheaper for the Intergas. So I'm thinking we should go with BG, but all the advice is to avoid BG like the plague. There was one other independent but he never sent his quote.
Thanks.0 -
Maybe its just me but I wouldnt touch BG no matter what thwy quote. Remember cheapest does not mean the best deal either.0

Engineer 1 is suggesting 28kw boiler which is complete overkill - 4 rads you say you have got!
Tell you the truth to just swap one combi for another is quite simple - its not like they have to convert the system or do that much in the way of plumbing.
I bet they are planning to do it in a day or so - then £900 labour starts to sound a bit much.
Get more quotes from small traders only - dont touch BG with a barge pole!!!!I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!
New signature - I am a Plumber (I am just not allowed to tell you!)0 -
The chosen output of a combi has very little to do with the amount of rads it does however have a great bearing on the hot water flow rate out of the taps, personally I wouldn't dream of using anything less than a 28kwI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
I'm surprised British Gas' quote wasn't far higher than the independent quotes.
For London, you're likely looking at around 2k minimum. In fact I'm pretty sure prices were even higher before. The boilers are around £800 or less so the labour they make is good. But it's a closed shop cos of Gas Safe so they can get away with it. Plus us Londoners are used to being robbed.
There are companies on Ebay offering installation including the boiler for around £1000. Might be worth a look.0
