Some advice please. Due to sad family circumstances, a friend has offered me her Dad's Epson Printer - XP605 AO1. Basically it is only a couple of months' old and has hardly been used (sadly her Dad passed away a couple of weeks ago).
She is not too technically literate so couldn't answer my couple of queries. I have XP on my desktop and Windows 7 on the laptop. I assume this printer is compatible with both from what I have read and easy enough to connect to wifi.
Anyone who can recommend this printer or otherwise please? It will be used basically as a home printer with light to moderate usage -documents and some photographs.
Many thanks.

It should work on either, if you need further help of course the forum is here....
Windows should automatically install but someone will point you to the drivers if necessary, and if it is wireless will help with that too.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Thanks. I believe everything that came with the printer is still in the box including the quick set up guide. This forum is fantastic - amazing the help and tips I have gained from it.0

Hi I have had a look and it seems it's wireless too, I would set it to have a static ip address (assuming you have a wireless router and it is in range) look here for how to do it.

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts - I will pass them on to my friend.
Yes, I have a wireless router and it is in range. I will check out the link you have given me - thank you.0 -
I received the printer on Friday and set it up as per the instructions which came with it. It has connected wirelessly without any problems to my desktop pc and my laptop. However, I do know I should really have created a better connection by using an ethernet connection between the router and the printer.
I have always been a bit 'frightened' of IP numbers etc. Would it be straightforward to now hardwire it to the router? A friend said it would just find it's own IP address. I am a bit worried about playing about with it too much as it is all working perfectly at the moment.
Any thoughts or tips welcome.0 -

Thanks, I am inclined to agree with you. I found the steps setting up the current system was very straightforward. I was advised my system might not be stable if I did not hardwire using Ethernet. However, I think let sleeping dogs lie is the best policy!0 -
If you have folks sharing your wireless eg phones/ipads/laptops using DHCP then the printer may keep getting a new IP address(whether it's wireless or not) every time it reboots/router reboots/or when the lease runs out. If the manual for the printer tells you how to set it for a static IP (wireless or not) or perhaps your router could give it a static address instead....4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Only two of us in household sharing the wireless. I start to get confused when I read instructions about static IP addresses. Think I will leave well alone and see how we get on.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.0 -
