You're entitled to your opinion, of course, as I am to mine. Which Normandy ciders have you actually tried, then?

One or two, more to the point i'm from Somerset so know a thing or two about cider. If as you stated you lived in the west country and knew anything about cider you would know there are no chemicals in cider (proper stuff) only apples (straw and the odd rat).
Most stuff in this thread are mass produced rubbish anyway, most drinkers wouldn't know or cope with a real cider anyway :-)
Don't buy the Carling, Stella mass produced rubbish by Thatchers or Bulmer's among others that are grown and made in the south west if you do want that sort of thing.0 -

I suppose, to be fair, most of the English ciders which are nationally available are a world apart from 'proper' Somerset cider. More akin to the stuff they used to knock out in Norton Fitzwarren before the factory (and I use that word advisedly) closed. I gather it's now a housing estate!
The main bar at the university I went to sold real cider (complete with bits of wood floating in it) at around 10p a pint (a while back!) and that was good stuff. I'm delighted it's still available in your neck of the woods. Not here, though..........:)0 -

Apologies for bumping this old thread, but i thought i'd share a tip with you cider lovers looking for a good appley taste. It's something i've been doing for about 5 years and is extraordinarily effective.
Buy a decent quality strong cider, for instance Westons Vintage at 8.2%.
Buy a good apple juice, for instance Copella cloudy apple juice.
Mix about 1/4 to 1/3 apple juice to the rest cider.
What you end up with is a 5-6% cider that tastes more appley than anything you've ever had before. It's phenominally refreshing and works out to be around the same cost, as the two products are priced similarly (copella is often well reduced too).

That sounds like an excellent idea - I'll give it a go. Thanks.
