burst pipe allowance

Afternoon all.
I'll try and keep this short and sweet.
Live in a rented property, had a burst pipe, water bill came in at £750, LL fixed the pipe eventually, Anglian water reduced the bill to nothing as you have a leakage allowance for one time only, (didn't know that).
I have been phoning round and apparently as a tenant you cannot get leakage allowance insurance, obviously the LL has to have insurance and fix pipes etc... BUT its the leakage allowance that now scares the @@@@ out of me! You only get this allowance from the water company one time in your life and if it happens again in another property you have to pay the bill that accumulates.
This insurance only applies to home owners only, not tenants?
If this happens again what on earth happens?
Do you claim off LL insurance? What happens if they wont pay it?
If anyone can offer advice i'd be grateful, the house we rent is not the greatest and waiting for out time up to get out, the pipes are all lead and the chappy who came out told us that it could happen again as the pipes are old etc....
Anyone had this before????
Thanks in advance

I think you are worrying yourself needlessly. In all my many years I have never suffered a burst pipe problem & have owned & lived in properties of various ages some with old lead piping.
As it sounds as if you are hoping to move in the not too distant future, try to relax & not worry too much about something that in all probability will not happen again. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I would suspect that if the landlord was not prompt in dealing with a leak, then he would be liable for the loss of water.
Obviously as a tenant you would have a duty to inform the landlord as soon as possible and if the water was gushing out, I would expect you to turn off the water at the main stop c0ck.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
