broken hinge on hp laptop

They have already done the backup and I am going to collect it soon. Expensive lesson learnt I guess, I will keep the laptop and remove hard drive before selling I think. The battery holds good charge and other parts on it like new so hopefully usefull for someone.

you may be able to use it plugged into an external screen/tv, if they haven't wiped it

Thanks for the links they have helped.

I now have the laptop back with flash drive with data on too. The laptop turns on and powers up fine, there is a very blurry picture on the screen but at least its something. I have ordered a hdmi cable to see if it will work connected to my tv, if it does I might look into trying to repair it myself although I don't have a clue where to start!

Try and pick up a broken one on ebay cheaply.

You will have the added advantage of having one which you can practice dismantling.

Tried connecting to tv but without configuring laptop I cant get it to work.

This is the damage.

The screen itself looks damaged from that, so it may not prove economical to repair when you add up the costs of parts unless you wait for a second hand partially working one one to appear at a reasonable price. You'll probably need the whole top half/screen, two leads, and a hinge
