If it was a foreign registered truck it was most likely left hand drive, the driver probably/possibly didn't even realise he had hit you.

You'll just have to take this one on the chin, and keep out of the way of big lorries in future. They will use more than one lane, and whilst they should wait until both lanes clear they usually expect cars to get out of their way.
(Please don't adopt the policy of muttering "It was his fault-I had right of way" as the fire brigade cut you out of a mangled car)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The insurance companies peruse this site, to see if people are ripping them off, so by posting, you should inform them, otherwise you might be in for a nasty shock should you make a claim in future. It will be listed forever however, as a no claim event. But not affect the premium.

I did this when some muppet smashed my wing mirror off my parked car (a pedestrian), but the excess was more than the part. But I didn't advertise the fact to the insurance on a public forum that ins. co.s peruse. I was honest.

Lets all hope the OP hasn't put the name Moderate Danger as the policy holder then.

I suppose now would be a good time to tell you Moderate Danger is my middle name...

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll bite the bullet & call them today. A small part of me is hoping the police can get some CCTV footage or something they can use to identify the lorry, but I'm fully aware the odds of that happening aren't too great.
  • Another intersting trivia point (assuming anu CCTV evidence can be obtained and is good enough to identify a reg number) is foreign HGV's often have a different reg number for the trailer and the tractor unit, with each of them being insured by a different insurer

When I read the title of this thread I assumed it would be about a rear end accident.
