RAC v's AA + Tesco Deals

We've always been with the AA but in the interests of economising we're now thinking of joining the RAC instead so we can use the Tesco Clubcard Deals to pay for the membership.

Can you use the Tesco Deals to renew every year as well as for the initial joining?

I've always thought it was 6 and half a dozen between the AA & RAC but is there anything in particular I should be aware of before jumping ship? I'm a creature of habit and change worries me, lol.

The RAC/Tesco Deals seem to be either:

Home + Roadside (fine if you commute and drive locally)

    or

Roadside + Recovery (these longer distance alternatives exclude Home cover)

Although you can add home start over the phone.

At renewal they send you an invite for full price cover! But I'm in the process of sending off another RAC Clubcard Deal.

As far as I'm aware you can use clubcard vouchers each year.
You can get one of several RAC packages (they have more available than they used to) and its the people that are covered not the car. See here for the details: http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/browse.aspx?N=4294967150&bid=HMotoring

The RAC are are often better than the AA. They have more patrols and have patrols at night unlike the AA who reply far more on sending out agents.

I didn't pick up on the lack of home cover thing on the higher packages so thanks vikingaero, I'll go check that again.

Thanks for the link 30.....you've just made it easier for me, lol. If we can suss out which package is best for us I think we will swap.

Go for the RAC. HAve use dthem a few times and then have been excellent. Current car came with AA cover which I had to use. The guy was rude, and unhelpful and refused to take the car to the dealer as his shift was coming to an end so he would only take me off the motorway to the nearest services where I would have to call again and wait for another truck to come out. Wont be using them again. Also many colleagues have had bad experiences with AA including a female 20 something colleague who broke down alone in one of the less desirable areeas of Bristol at night. Knowing she was alone they still took several hours to come out.
  • Last year I took advantage of the Tesco deal vouchers and purchased RAC. I have just had my renewal package and in the letter it says "alternatively, you can renew using your Clubcard vouchers, by completing the form in your Clubcard Deals brochure."

This is great as I assume I just go to the Tesco Clubcard Deals website and purchase as I did last year...

My question is do I need to do anything with the renew I've been sent from RAC? It is automatically cancelled (as I imagine renewing via Tesco will issue me with a new card and membership number) or do I need to cancel the current membership with them?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

I've renewed with RAC using Tesco vouchers. Ignore the letter from the RAC and just send the Tesco vouchers as detailed on the website. The RAC have you on their database and will automatically renew your membership from the correct date
  • It seems you can have Roadside/ Recovery /At Home now
