Can't decide on a name for my newborn son

  • I SO SO regret not naming one of my sons after my Dad :o The youngest now 11 is just like him and as my Dad passed away when I was a teenager I really wish I'd thought about it more, it would suit him so much more than his actual name does. :o

My grandad went to register my aunty as 'Victoria' but he was drunk when he went to do it (this was the 1940s!). He forgot her name and registered her name as the month she was born, my Gran was not pleased, but May is a nicer name than say October so it's a good thing she was a spring baby!

if i was to have a boy it would be kail or gabrielle but i`ve got three girls so ..oh well, shut up now lol:beer: congrats anyway

Boy? Hope you mean Gabriel in that case! Another reminder to be careful with the spelling on the certificate!

Also make sure the last syllable of the first name doesn't sound the same as the first syllable of the surname, or they just merge together. I had a Sam Mainwaring in my class at school who ended up being called "Sammering!" every time a teacher shouted for him!

I thought I was going to have a son but ended up with a daughter. I hadn't picked a name for a girl but while pregnant we liked Luke or Brian (after my ex husbands father) and after watching Dog the Bounty Hunter I like the name Leyland as well. These are more unusual I think. Hope you pick a name soon.

My mum wanted to call my brother Henry, so my dad volunteered to sign the name certificate and wrote "James" on it! Mum was not impressed, although 25 years later and I could never see my brother responding to the name Henry!!

I like the boys name Micah (pronounced Meeka)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I already have a Joshua Isaac and an Alfie Joseph. I am pregnant with number three, due in November. I still have 5 months to go, but am already fretting over names. I have no idea what to call the baby if we have another boy.
Hoping to get some good ideas from this thread!

We found this really difficult to. We had a shortlist of names we both agreed on and then decided after the birth which we felt was best, although in the cas of number 2 it didnt work. We though she was suposed to be a he from the scan pictures, but a nice surpise anyway.

    We have ended up with:

    Nathan Thomas
    Jessica Poppy
    Jude Alexander

Also agree strongly with the other posted about using full names on birth certs etc. Gives eveyone the choice if they want to shorten a name, for example with Nathan we had intended to refer to him as Nat but it has never happened and he is always Nathan.

In our case I have a long surname so we also opted for fairly concise first names to make it less of a mouthful.

We also looked at several more unusuall names of which my favourite was Xavier (prounced Zav - e - air) but decided tha perhaps it was a bit to unusuall and he would alway be spelling it etc plus the MIL said it sounded like toilet cleaner!

Have you thought about family names? We did this for dd1, she shares her name with my great-grandmother, her middle name is dh's grandma's name. We did love both names and they do go with our surname.

I used the site on the first page and it has an option to surprise you with a boy/girls name.
I got Cecyl for a boy and Mckenna for a girl!
    Me thinks not!
