Ball park figure - Gas & Elec for one person

I currently rent a flat where all the bills are included in the rent, but am thinking of moving in the next few months, and as most don't include bills, am trying to work out what sort of budget I'd be looking at. The last few years I've shared flats and last time I lived on my own I had a card meter so I really can't think what a reasonable amount would be!

I know this is obviously dependent on what kind of heating etc there is but would really appreciate if anyone could give me a rough idea of what they spend for one person in a one-bed flat?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

    I live on my own in a 1 bed flat,
    Eleccie = £187
    Gas = £241
    These are my figures for the tax year (don't ask) ending April 06, & my electric is on a key meter (which is more expensive, but I rent so hey!:eek: )

    Hope that this is of some help.

    50-55 pounds would be average default direct debit, although shop around if you have a good deal £25 gas and £15 elec with gas as primary heating may be a good starting point. 10000 to 14000 gas kWh or 2300 to 3000 elec kWh. Rough guesses though don't be mislead by the company offering the lowest direct debit. Go online cashback broker. Give regular meter reads during your first year minimum of 2 on each 4 would be ideal. Build up a year's history then reassess every year (max)

    I pay £25 for gas and £20 for electric with ebico in my two bed end terrace, though I'm moving my electric to British Gas which should cut the bill to around £16 a month.

    My house is well insulated and I do my best to conserve energy (without being stingy).
