New or Used Car

Hi there

I'm thinking of trading my 05 Megane for a newer car, slighter smaller so my road tax, petrol and insurance is cheaper, but finding it difficult to get a smaller car with a half decent spec.

Do i pay more per month for the actual car with no MOT for 3 years etc

or

Do i get a 10/11 plate, which is what i have been looking at?

or

As someone at work has said wait until closer to September for a used car when the new reg comes out.

Any opinions you have would be great.

At the moment I'm looking at Mazda 2, Fiesta, Hynudai i20 so if you have any other ideas of cars for me to look at for under £8000 please feel free let me know.

thanks

If you are after a new i20 with the five years warranty, I posted this one on HUKD last night, it's not far over your budget.

    Other cars to consider are
    Kia Rio
    Toyota Yaris
    Skoda Fabia
Dacia Sandero (extended warranty is an option)

Also think about the warranty on used cars.
An 11 plate Kia will have 5 years remaining and the same year Hyundai will have 3 years warranty and breakdown.

Is your only reason for looking to replace the car is to save money on road tax, petrol and insurance? If it is, you may want to do some sums to check you will ultimately end up saving money. Spending £8000 on a car to save £500 per year wouldn't make financial sense for instance...

    Honda Jazz?
    Peugeot 208?
    VW Polo?
    Seat Ibiza?

yeah i understand that a new car would be more expensive but my car is starting to need more and more repairs, i have recently had my MOT and have a few advisories. So if i never got a different car i would have a few repairs to get carried out.

I was thinking Polo and Jazz too, but gonna be older or high miles ones compared to the other suggestions.

Everything is a negotiation, so the dealers know that the value of their stock cars are going to drop in September and they will be keen to shift them. So tell them your logic and make them an offer.
