business rates

Given that people all over the place are reclaiming their bank charges, why can't we all reclaim our business rates?

Clearly the amounts councils charge for providing no services what so ever are even more of an unfair penalty than excessive bank charges...
The money, Dave...

Not the Council's fault, I think you'll find............

How is the money I pay spent?

Business Rates are collected by all Councils and are paid into a central government pool. This money is then redistributed to local councils according to the population in each area.

Business Rates is not directly linked to services you may or may not receive.

An interesting question and it possibly needs more investigation.

However, my initial reaction is that this would not be allowed as a MOL claim. Firstly, I'm not sure that MOL can be used for claims against the Government/Local Authorities (dunno - can it?)?

But that if it could, Business Rates are not a charge - they are simply a tax. If there's a charge for late or non-payment, then possibly could be claimed - but not the Rates, themselves.

    dunno :)
