After DRO is approved

I posted on the big dro thread too, not sure where is the best place...

Anyway, I was approved for a DRO at the start of the month. I have since had a letter from my water company (water arrears included in dro) saying the amount owed is still payable. The account is in mine and my partners name so does this mean he is now accountable for the debt? He has no problem paying it, I just want to be sure he's allowed to without running the risk of having the DRO revoked.

Also StepChange said I could keep my mobile contract as its the only phone I have access to. When it comes to upgrade, am I allowed to? I'd really like a cheaper plan and maybe a better phone, although that isnt essential. My partner pays the bill by dd but the contract is in my name.

    Hi,

Assuming your partner does not have a DRO then he could, and should pay the water charges. It will have no effect upon your DRO.
No problem with the upgrade, perhaps providing the new phone isn't worth more than £300 resale value.

  • Thank you!
We have no qualms at all with him paying the water at all...I had to include it in the DRO because its a couple of months in arrears and has my name on it too so showed up on my credit report.

That's great about the upgrade...probably wont even get a new phone, just wanted to reduce my plan to save some money!!

    Thanks again for your reply!

Be careful with this. If your reduced tariff increases your disposable income to more than £50 that can stop you from being able to have the DRO.
