Types of train tickets...
Please could someone explain to me the different train ticket types.
The problem is that I'm going on holiday for 5 weeks and need to get a return ticket from Blackpool to London.
I checked out virgin and they priced it at £42.20 saver return but I thought you had to return within 1 month which I clearly stated in the inward and return journey boxes.
Is that correct?
Next up was £149.80 - STANDARD OPEN RETURN
so expensive!!
What the diference?

If you are going to go for 5 weeks then you will need to get a single ticket in each direction - no return ticket is valid for more than one month
Not sure why the Virgin site should show a saver for a journey over one month though.
A saver ticket is valid on off peak trains - a standard open return is also valid on peak trains. Both are walk up fares you can buy the day you travel
If you can get them advance singles would be cheapest.0 -

Did you click on the ticket name - it tells you the rules that apply to that type of ticket0

No, when return is over a month later it offers 2 Saver Half Returns which are single tickets which must be brought with another single in the opposite direction.0 -
Ring National Rail Enquiries. They'll have details of any discounts you can get and will be able to advise you a bit better. This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0
