Options
Anyone know where I can hire a van with an automatic transmission in the North London area, near to Tottenham? I am moving house but only have an auto licence

Thanks in advance for any advice

Not that many. There are some but usually at either end of the scale.

Small car derived vans or large truck mostly. Mate works for a firm with some automatic minibuses.

Probably cheaper to get a man with a van.

I'm not personally aware of companies that hire these out, it is niche so doing a good, local google should pull up something for you. When you think about it, apart from the initial purchase cost, it would make more sense for the hireco. Very difficult to over-rev the engine, no clutch to slip and tyres would last longer as they don't get the misjudged wheel spin with the vans varying weight. Might have to look at local hirers with pre-used vans, there are certainly loads of auto ambulances and minibuses, they must go somewhere!

Yes there are ambulances and minibuses but a hire firm wont want a tired old hack to hire out.

Its easy to wheelspin a modern auto. Left foot braking, Auto gearboxes cost a fair bit more to repair than a manual one. Even taking into account the odd clutch swap.

I'd phone the local hire places and see what they can do/recommend. You might be easier bribing a friend or family member with a full license to drive a manual, though.
