Wheelchair Friendly Holidays in the UK

I have been trying to find suitable holiday accommodation at a reasonable price (not raised because its for the disabled!) in the UK. Not an easy job....!!

My father is wheelchair bound, 19 stone and 66 years of age and needs proper wheelchair accommodation, mother 63, is just recovering from cancer and walks with a stick.

Everything I find seems OK until you look at the surroundings and gardens....gravel is not a good thing to push wheelchairs through(or pushchairs for that matter)!!

Has anyone found or been to anywhere that is really wheelchair friendly and can recommend it...?

There appears to be a gap in the market for someone who is disabled to design some real disabled friendly sites.

My wife is a wheelchair user and the only place we have found that has reliable accommodation for those with physical disabilities is Centre Parcs, you also have a disabled parking space outside of your lodge if you have a blue badge.

some of the caravan sites have caravans that are adapted for disabled use, and have the parking spaces by it.

Park Resorts

They have 30 sites over the UK - know the site - Dawlish Sands that has a disabled caravan.

-run by a lady called abigail - she has a property "The Stables" that has been converted for disabled use, - walk in washroom (Tavistock South Devon), that sleeps upto 4

Cottage - Higher Longford Cottages - just on Dartmoor - theres a 1 bed cottage, and 99% sure its wheelchair friendly.

We took my Mum to this place several times because it was suitable for someone walking with a frame and sometimes needing a wheelchair. It has a lovely conservatory where she could sit and look at the scenery if she wasn't well enough to go out.

There are other units on the same site but I haven't seen inside them so you'd need to ask about them.

Hi, Im not sure what kind of holiday you were after but my mam has built a holiday home bungalow in a village called Sanquhar, near Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. It has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 6 people. It is wheelchair friendly as we take my 96 year old grandma there.
