Bank say I had PPI, which I was unaware of

I had a letter from Barclays today, which tells me I have had PPI on some of my past loans with them and they have invited me to attempt to reclaim if i think I was missold. The thing is, I have checked my last loan agreement which I had with them and as I thought I did not take out PPI. I phoned Barclays today to check if I had PPI on this load and they said I did. So I am confused how this can be. Would they have added PPI to the loan even though I declined it at the time I took it out? Has anyone else had experience of this with Barclays?

On loans, it would be on the agreement. On credit cards, it can be added post sale (indeed, most are).
