You make an assumption the op is posting from an employee perspective, they may be a service user.

What exactly is a "service user?"

The OP has visited his local Jobcentre/ council office and thought some of the staff were dressed unsuitably.

    (I think!)

Where I live, some of the bin men go on their rounds topless in summer. Disgusting!

I wouldn't say that's appropriate in a customer facing role, especially if bra straps etc are on show.

I think people in the Job Centre in particular should look professional to set an example. Sadly when I had to sign on after being made redundant last year you could only tell who worked there and who was there to sign on by which side of the desk they were sat on. Very poor show I thought.

Yes its true that the staff in the job centre never look professional. Shabby t shirts and scruffy jeans would be the dress code they seem to use. I don't know why they can't wear a shirt and proper trousers/shirt. They definitely couldn't wear a tie, that's for sure!

In fact you might see some of the ones signing on more neatly dressed :)

Nothing particularly wrong with bra straps, but I don't think it's appropriate to have a load of cleavage on show when you are seeing customers ...... Unless you work in a lap dancing joint
