brought a pair of pyjamas from tesco, lady didnt take tag off

I brought a pair of pajamas from tesco and the lady who served me didn't check the pajamas top for security tags. I went home and went to put it on and found that the security tag was still on there. To make things worse I've lost the recipt during shopping.

What should I do? I've got no proof of purchase though I paid on my card...
I paid a lot of money for the set and am really annoyed.

Ring the store, I imagine it happens a fair bit so I wouldn't worry about it.

Were the pjs the only thing you bought? If so, the card statement would back your claim.

Did you use a Tesco club card? If you did, I believe their records would show the purchase.
  • I did it a few years ago and bought a boxed pack of boxers for OH For Christmas. I bought them about 6 weeks before and like you couldn't find the receipt. As I had my matalan card this shows exactly what I had bought, I don't know if the tesco card has details of what you bought if it is swiped by their customer services, but If you have a tesco card that might be worth asking as don't they gather details about your shopping habits that way?

This happened to me once when I bought my son a winter coat. I just went to customer services and they took it off no probs at all.

If you're worried then ask on Fb, I always go on there when I have a problem or want to give praise/ opinions etc. It will be OK.

Ring them up and find out if they can search their till records, if they won't accept just your card statement/online banking printout. I used to work in a shop where if a customer brought in a printout of their bank statement showing a payment was made to the shop and also show the card they used to pay, the manager could do a search on the day's till records (search by card number) to bring up the store's copy of the receipt. I don't think it would be necessary but at least it may be an option if they're awkward!

This happened to me once in Next with a skirt. I'd lost the receipt by the time I realised, but I went back anyway and they just accepted my word removed the tag for me.

  • This happened to me in M & Co when on holiday in Scotland. I bought the top in Fort William and didn't realise till I got back to the hotel in Oban. So I took it back to the Oban store and she removed it no problem - and didn't even want to look at the receipt! It must happen all too regularly in all stores. I think you are worrying too much just take them back and explain!

This happened to a swimming suit my son was given as a gift. We didn't have the receipt but took it back anyway and they took it off without even asking for proof of purchase.
