Hi,
I'm hoping somebody can give me some advice for my daughter she has just left University (she's 21) and has decided to take a year out before continuing with full time Education. In an effort to use the year wisely to further her Post Grad she has decided to take up the offer of a placement with a local school and College to train on an NVQ level 3 Supporting Teaching. The problem is that there is no salary attached to this offer and we have no experience with the benefits system at all, she lives with her partner who is on a low income (and works full time) so finally, my question is does anybody know if she will be able to claim JSA, or Housing Benefit or any other kind of help? For some reason the forum wouldn't let me post a thread on the CAB board!
Really appreciate any advice given.

She cannot claim JSA, if she is a fulltime student.0

I am reading this as she has finished university, taking a year out and then doing a post grad teaching course. (Yes?)
So she is unemployed but has accepted a placement at a school/college to do a NVQ level 3 Supporting Teaching?
I am not an expert on the possibility of grants/loans when it is for a NVQ level 3. perhaps someone else will be able to help.
If there is no support available then if her partner is working she would not be entitled to JSA as he is expected to support her.
However, I believe that he could put in a claim for Housing Benefit and Council Tax benefit based on his low income.0 -
There are no supportive grants for a level 3. It is classed on LARA as full time, so no JSA, though having no income can still get other benefits.
Even if the course was eligible - shed need contributions based as his income is over the income based, which doesn't sound likely if she's been at uni.0
