Once you've lived in a house with high ceilings anything with 'regular' height ceilings feels incredibly claustrophobic in my opinion. It makes the room feel much more grand and spacious.
  • Although our rooms are not large we do have high ceilings, which makes them look bigger and adds a touch of elegance to an ordinary Victorian terraced house. We have original coving too :)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Having recently purchased a property which has high ceilings, I was tired of friends and colleagues reminding me 'it'll be impossible to heat etc.'. I'm sat here now and it couldn't be warmer! Seriously though, I think there's always a compromise whenever you buy a house; for me the appeal of lovely proportions outweighed any negatives.

I want to be able to stretch my arms out in the morning without colliding with the ceiling. If I do fit a ceiling fan, again, I want it to be far enough away that I can stretch up without endangering myself.

Strewth, what are you an orangutan :D?

I have a vaulted ceiling in the lounge and it's a pain to clean cobwebs or change light bulbs.

Some of those spindly spiders with the tiny bodies and long legs decided to make home there a month ago. They spun lots of fine webs. Yuk!. Had to keep the step ladder to hand for a while till I cleared them.

Heating hasn't been a problem, its no different to any of my other rooms.

Oh don't be so unromantic :rotfl:

Heating bills, pffft - get yourself some fluffy throws and lots of jumpers and embrace the glamour, the grandeur, the joys of chandeliers and ceiling roses and cornicing with cobwebs and having a 7 step ladder permanently in the corner of the room and the impossibility of finding curtains that are long enough for the drop on your bay window ;)
I don't remember having you round for tea at my previous house :D
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
