Any advice on this one

My friend is about to be made redundant. Seems like everyone i know is going through the same ordeal at the moment. In his case his redundancy kicks in just before his holiday abroad. He currently claims HB and Tax Creds for his wife and child. He reckons he will only get income based JSA if he claims due to his low income of not paying NI's.
Due to his holiday being close he is in a pickle as to when to make the claim. His last day of work lands 10 days before he flies off. He reckons he might be owed a couple of days hols pay.
I just wondered what i should advise him. If he claims before his holiday wont he have to go through it all again when he returns?
If he doesnt make a claim until he comes back he could be left without ANY income for three weeks (including his 2 weeks hols). He says he simply cant afford that and is even considering cancelling his holiday.

If anyones got any advice i can pass on to him it would be much appreciated

Best to get the JSA forms now and send them off as soon as he is made redundant, enclosing information on any final pay, holidays and bonuses, the money he receives from that will have to last him for a certain amount of time before the JSA kicks in.

He is worried that he will get called in for his interview when he is on holiday. Also he obviously cant sign on when on his hols. He doesnt want to lose money, he also doesnt want to lose his holiday, but it seems a lot of hassle to sign on then have to sign off a few days later then have to go through it all again a couple of weeks later
