DFSD's 'staying out of debt' diary

  • What a great idea as previously mentioned to have diary after the debt has been paid, definitely to keep on the straight and narrow. Well done on your craft sales, what do you make? and well done on your lotto winnings, shame each line is going up to £2 might have to do alternate weeks instead!

    Best wishes C x

  • Thanks chrysalis, I thought I would be 'changed' when we became debt free, but we still have no money left at the end of the month and still have to watch our money intently!

I make personalised cushions, bags, bunting etc. I mainly started it as a hobby and something for me to keep occupied with other than work/cleaning etc, but never imagined it would be so well received. It's been a wonderful journey and boosted my confidence (which was practically non-existent) greatly. I finally feel like I' quite good at something!
  • Another order overnight, so need to make those items tonight when I get home.

I had to fill the car up with petrol this morning, that cost £50 exactly. Was naughty and bought a sandwich for lunch as didn't prep anything at home, which cost £2.

Have also sold some 'no longer needed' items locally for £10 which I should receive in the next few days.

Just need not to spend anything now!
  • Really need to get back in the right place for money-saving again. I went out at lunchtime today as absolutley had enough of the office. Ended up spending £7 on a toy for Ds (reduced from £15, saw it at £10 a few weeks back but left it, now bought it for him but does he really need it?! No!) Also bought a drink and crisps to make my lunch a little more exciting. Tonight I really need to sit down and work on getting back on track, both with my diet (currently shocking) and money-saving.

On a plus, the lottery win money has now been transferred over to the ISA, plus £15 picked up from an order yesterday, so there's £2415 in there. My parents have kindly given us £400 of the winnings, we were supposed to split it 50/50 and have £300 each. They are so kind and generous. I don't live near them, (a 3.5 hour drive away), haven't done for nearly 10 years now, and I miss them terribly. :(
  • Forgot to mention, I have also spent £37 on a pair of shoes for DH today, but they will be for Christmas. He is notoriously hard to buy for and has huge feet and really struggles to find inexpensive shoes in his size. These were on HUKD @ £90, reduced to £37 and only available in size 13 - perfect! I was starting to worry about the lack of Christmas presents I have bought so far this year, I have usually nearly finished my Christmas shopping by August! ;) I buy things in the sale in Januray or throughout the year. Been a bit busy with the house sale and move; business and trying to save money this year though so far though.
  • Clunky noises from underneath cars are never good are they??? Ours has been making some noises for a little while, but now it's too loud to ignore. Think it's something to do with the suspension. Have booked it in to be looked at in the next week, but is likely to cost £100's. :( I need some more orders in and quick; I don't want to have to take money out of our car savings ISA. I'm due to pick up £30 from an order on Friday, I hope a few more come in before then.

Feeling a bit low today. DH is away overnight; the weather is awful and the bank account is not looking good as I've taken my eye off the ball again this month and have been putting all my business earnings straight into savings. I need to stop being so lazy and try harder. Would be so much easier if I'd had a good night's sleep in the last 2.5 years though! Ds is not a good sleeper and we're up every night with him. :( I'm just so tired.
  • A £45 order has cheered me up tonight and will go some way towards paying for the car repairs. I've made the items tonight and will wrap them up tomorrow, ready for posting.

I decided not to buy the shoes I'd reserved for DH for Christmas after all. I don't have the spare cash at the moment to pay for them.

Tired now, off to bed to try and get some sleep. I really hope Ds sleeps well tonight, I'm really struggling through lack of sleep at the moment.
  • More orders have been keeping me busy these past few days; I have 3 items to make tonight and then I really need to update my books as I've let that slip (again). :o

Back to working part time this week, thanks goodness. I didn't enjoy last week at all.

We had a lovely weekend and a pretty cheap one too! We had a completely free afternoon out yesterday at a wonderful local event for little ones. We took our own picnic and really enjoyed. Thankfully DS is a big picnic fan! The £20 we budgeted and took out of the bank account for yesterday will be going back in today. ;)

I've sold some bits locally and made some extra cash: our gas BBQ & bottle we didn't really use; some of DS's old toys and a now-redundant lawnmower. This has made a total of £100. The savings account is now up to £2500, just need to keep going with the 'earning extra income' at the same pace if we can and we'll have enough for that car when we need it, hopefully.
  • Another £7.50 made today from selling some more of Ds's 'baby' toys. Have advertised another item for £8, so would be good if that sells too.
  • It's payday today, so I have put £350 in the savings, making the total up to £3000. £100 has gone into the car & house maintenance pot which also covers tax and insurance etc.

I've received a few more orders lately and have also been selling bits of 'no longer needed' stuff locally, so the money has been trickling in; shame it always seems to pour out though!
